CanadaGALLERYCONVERSATION
Young women today are inundated with countless mixed messages. We are told more and more often that there are unlimited possibilities open for us, but only as long as we adhere to the ideal beauty standards we see in music videos, TV, movies and magazines.

An independent woman is highly regarded, but not well defined. We are supposed to look like models and porn stars, while having careers and financial stability of our own.

Today being single is well thought-of, divorce is more common, being a single mother is seen as an act of independent undertaking, and young women are focusing more on their careers rather than relationships; our lives are not balanced. We feel weak if we don’t have our lives in perfect control and silly when we are openly emotional. This conflicting mindset is one shred by many women of my generation.
