Through this film, I wanted to look at the many forms of Lucia and how they in turn reflect the values held by young women today. I wanted to trace her back in time to investigate the Swedish history of women, often overshadowed by male victories and personalities.
Today in Sweden, on the 13th of December each year, young women compete for the title of Lucia, to be the light of the darkest night of the year.
Through this film, I wanted to look at the many forms of Lucia and how they in turn reflect the values held by young women today. I wanted to trace her back in time to investigate the Swedish history of women, often overshadowed by male victories and personalities.
