A Day in the Life
9 am-- Rural Northern China— Young women gather in a schoolyard to start the journey of learning how to read.

10 am-- Los Angeles, USA , A young Filipina woman goes out for a model shoot, observing the often humorous ironies of the global fashion industry

11 am— Suva, Fiji. A young woman walks through the stockyard of the freight shipping company where she works. There are few women in this industry, she notes, but they are starting to become more numerous.

Seven continents… 193 plus countries… over a billion women between the ages of 20 and 40…. While we couldn’t even begin to capture the diversity of economic circumstances that young women today find themselves in, the portraits you’ll find in this section hint at the number of ways our generation are living their lives and participating in the economy. And you’ll see some threads running across them—such as the importance of education, or the increased entry of women in the professional workforce.

Of course, there’s also the harsh reality that global poverty is still a major issue that disproportionately affects women. See photo essays like that of Toyosi Odunsi, talking about impoverished girls in Nigeria, and the prevalence of prostitution among them—and see if you aren’t inspired to take action to make a change!
