This event was a discussion gathering on domestic violence and HIV/AIDS. The forum featured role plays and group presentation on domestic violence and HIV/AIDS. After an in depth discussion and analysis, the forum resolved that: there should intensive women's human rights awareness in rural communities, campuses and through the media. Women's organizations should create awareness about existing laws to promote women's human rights. Government should do more to promote women's reproductive health. Women who report cases of domestic violence should not be stigmatized. There is need for campaigns on care and support for HIV + persons and to discourage stigmatization and discrimination, especially of young girls who are HIV+. Women need extra care since they are the ones who carry the burden entrusted on the family by the HIV and AIDS. A greater part of the discussion was mimed. The main learning insight was that poverty and tradition expose the girl child to various forms of violence. The forum, which was very lively, had sessions of energizers featuring Akwa Ibom clap and a special way of singing paracetamol. There was also the unity song to round up the event.

This story embraces the fact that the experiences of women are similar throughout the world. Until our national & international communities see women's issues as priority, domestic violence and HIV/AIDS will continue to plague our societies. Women's groups around the world have been strengthening the awareness of these social ills but there needs to be more collaboration between all stakeholders
