STATISTICS:
In A 10 country Global Report, only 13 percent of women surveyed say they are very satisfied with their beauty.
The popular idea that eating disorders are mainly a problem among the wealthy has been disproven by several studies. In recent years it has been found that eating disorders are now also occurring among women in lower socio-economic status groups.

This series of images is about the way I see my own body. Before I turned twenty, I did not really display too much concern for my body as I was generally happy with it.

I’ve always been somewhat self-conscious but upon moving into my early adulthood, I’ve started developing some major issues with the way I look underneath my clothes. I took these pictures to represent the manner in which I used to look at my body when I was a teenager (the blurriness is likened to me not paying much attention to it), as well as how I look at my body now (I never really examined my nakedness until recently).

Through adolescence I did not care too much about my body. I was and still am self-conscious but not overly, and did not concern myself with what others might think of it. Recently I turned twenty years old and began to look at my body in a way I'd never done before. I've had less than 20/20 vision since I was ten and taking showers and baths without my glasses made it so that I paid little attention to what I looked like underneath my clothes.

This series of images is of an investigation of my body. Though they were taken while I was wearing my glasses, the blurred focusing is completely intentional. It is a statement on how I used to see myself until recently - in a vague, indistinct and subdued manner. The pictures are of various body parts that while I have issues with, I am coming to love more and more.

Many girls and women face body image issues at one point. I know I have, but we need to understand we are all different and there can't be a certain profile that defines what beauty is. We're all beautiful in our own right! We also can’t be harsh to other women because of their appearance. We should be able to lean on each other for support and understanding.

I dream of the day that all of us can stare at ourselves naked in the mirror and say to ourselves, "Yep. Absolutely perfect."
