During the two years of Imagining Ourselves, we received several emails expressing concern about the exhibit being non-representational. Below is one such email.

Imagining Ourselves recognizes our online exhibit and outreach was largely dependent on technology. This heavily influenced the representation of voices in the project. There are a billion women between the ages of 20-40, and a large number of these women live in poverty and are disconnected from luxuries like the Internet.

As a small non-profit organization, limited resources prohibited our ability to reach a larger segment of women. We strove to overcome this by partnering with organizations and artists who work with underrepresented women around the world.  We are grateful to organizations like Amnesty International and the World YWCA, with chapters all over the world, who helped us reach and represent voices not usually heard in mainstream press.  Please read stories such as "Small Commerce", "A Day in the Live of Sadiya Abubakar," "Interview with Amina Lawal," and the Body Maps series from Kenya, Thailand, India for some examples.

Given our small team and small budget, we actually reached a far larger and more diverse group of women than we ever could have anticipated.  It's a great start, but we agree wholeheartedly with the email below.  There's huge room to grow so as to reach women on the other side of the digital divide.
