La mayoría de las mujeres filipinas, especialmente las que viven en áreas rurales, son demasiado tímidas como para participar en las actividades de la comunidad.

La mayor parte del tempo, las mujeres se quedan en su casa para cuidar de los hijos y hacer las labores, o ayudar en la granja. Pero muy rara vez una mujer tiene la toma de decisión en la comunidad.

Mi abuela es ama de casa y mi madre también. La gran diferencia entre mi generación y las de mi abuela y mi madre es que ahora nosotras sabemos cómo seguir los deseos de nuestro corazón y cumplir nuestros sueños, sin importar las dificultades.

Mis fotos demuestran que las mujeres que tienen oportunidades educativas pueden cambiar sus vidas y las de sus comunidades. Aun cuando sean madres, las mujeres pueden aprovechar su potencial y ser partícipes directas del desarrollo de sus respectivas áreas.

I think in any culture women want their voices to be heard and it is great that as generations go on women begin to see that they deserve a better life for themselves and their daughters and are working hard towards that.

Although I think culture is very important, I am glad to hear that the new generations are excited about their education and want to reach their full potential. Also that they can keep their culture while fulfilling their dreams.

My relatives also came from a community where women would do most of the household and farm work. In my father's home town his mother would be the sole provider and not have time for activities. It's considered normal for women to only tend to their families and not have time to take care of themselves. But this generation has changed and I agree women are now stepping forward.
