Studying abroad has widened my vision of the world. At the Rietveld Academy where I study Art, I work in the canteen, women are not usually respected so much if they work in a canteen or a bar in Lebanon. But things are changing now.
When I made Flat Normal Rectangular Room I wanted to underline ironically, and dramatically the situation of women during war. I wanted to stress the contrast between how women in Lebanon pay a lot of attention to their beauty and looks, and how most of them have lived this war, and still are living it. I find this controversial, but I also respect these women. In spite of not having equal rights as men, and living in a war zone they still insist on being beautiful.
