Refugee/Survivor
Phillippa Yaa de Villiers
South AfricaGALLERYCONVERSATION
Maybe. But I’m not the only one
a refugee from legitimacy,
Here I am then, here I am.
I am the colony of their forbidden love,
where Africa's son
and Scotland's grand-daughter
dna-ed, denied their offspring:
damn baby,
bull rushing into life.
A basket case?

Maybe. But I’m not the only one:
A refugee from legitimacy
Here I am then, here I am.
I am their phantom marriage
made flesh.
I am their "I do",
and their unspoken vow speaks now.
No ring adorns the marriage of myself to myself,
it is endless and golden.
I am everywhere alone, and nowhere at home,
I give my word,
to ancestors unheard?

Maybe. But I’m not the only one:
A refugee from legitimacy.
Here we are then. Here we are.
a refugee from legitimacy,
Here I am then, here I am.

I am the colony of their forbidden love,
where Africa's son
and Scotland's grand-daughter
dna-ed, denied their offspring:
damn baby,
bull rushing into life.
A basket case?

Maybe. But I’m not the only one:
A refugee from legitimacy
Here I am then, here I am.

I am their phantom marriage
made flesh.
I am their "I do",
and their unspoken vow speaks now.
