With this film, I hope to encourage young women to feel comfortable with their bodies and their identities and...
Animation allows me to manipulate image and time in minute detail, so that I wield total control of my characters' choreography. When I created Out of Beat a year and a half ago, I was inspired not only by flamenco dancing but by my mother who taught me to have confidence and believe in myself.
The film follows a young girl who is taking ballet lessons, but who looks and feels different from the rest of her class. Her mother sees her frustration and cheers her up by inspiring her to find her own personal beat and be proud of it.
