Becoming Leaders
Rutendo Precious Mudzamiri
ZimbabweGALLERYCONVERSATION
Since then I have founded an arts organization for young women artists. I've organized and funded an inaugural gala and held...
Through Imagining Ourselves I've learned that when you start doing important things, important things start happening to you. Not only has my life changed, the lives of many young women in Harare have been positively affected. For example, one woman had always dreamed of becoming a musician. After performing at our gala in Harare, she enrolled in music school and now performs throughout the city.
Because of Imagining Ourselves, I discovered that I could be a leader and a role model to other young women. I didn't realize that I could teach others until other young women showed that they trusted and believed in me. Now I want to know more about the world in order to better assist young women that seek my guidance.
Imagining Ourselves is more than a project - it is a part of me. It is in my heart and spirit. It has revived young women of my country and encouraged them to dream bigger dreams and make them happen.
Imagining Ourselves has broadened my thinking and taught me that I am the change that my generation of women wants. I can and should inspire other young women so that we can change the world together. Now I know that if we set high expectations for ourselves, we can and will rise to meet them.
