Through my work, I try to tap into the universal femininity that has existed in our world since ancient times. My photographs and performances address technology and the female body but are, at the same time, deeply rooted in Japanese mythology.
Some people in the audience are given the telephone number of my body suit and are invited to call me up from their cell phones.
I portray goddesses that shape-shift and appear in different forms. Sometimes they're connected to modern technology like Keita Girl; sometimes they reveal a greater bond with nature like "The Princess of Ogura," a beautiful, naked woman whose head and bust seem to be emerging from a rich pasture of red azuki beans.
In "Pepper" and "Zazame," I present the female body covered with peppermint gum and golden thumbtacks to suggest eroticism and tactility.
Through my work, I try to tap into the universal femininity that has existed in our world since ancient times. My photographs and performances address technology and the female body but are, at the same time, deeply rooted in Japanese mythology.
