By the time pregnancy occurs, many infertile couples have accrued a long history of disappointment and loss.
At the same time, it's not that we wish our pregnant friends ill. In fact, if we're distant and vague, it's probably not about you at all. Fertility treatments are consuming, both physically and emotionally. It's not envy that keeps us away so much as pure lack of energy.
To make matters worse, many people, governments and insurance companies do not regard infertility as a legitimate medical condition, leaving patients without the support and resources they deserve. In particular, lack of monetary resources forces some women to take on extra risks in order to maximize their chances of success from each individual cycle.
