Ciudad Juarez
Lorena Rodriguez
MexicoGALLERYCONVERSATION
Coincidentally, at that same time images of Salma Hayek supporting this cause were on display in the Barcelona metro.
I don’t like only painting protest themes because I believe that painting should somehow also reflect less controversial themes, so that it can inspire tranquility and beauty. I believe in artistic liberty and I would not like to limit myself to one theme, but I do believe that raising awareness is very important.
My main motivation as an artist is to show another image of the Latin woman, one who is stronger and contemporary, while still reflecting our cultural past. At the same time I would also like to break with the stereotype of the submissive, sad, and oppressed woman that is shown in most ethnic, Latin paintings.
